Since we started Based Upon in 2004 our work has moved fluidly between fine art, collectible design and material innovation. We’re constantly humbled by the collectors and collaborators who trust us to bring their stories, and our own, to life. It’s a privilege, too, to serve architects, interior designers and specifiers who quite literally shape the world. There have been and continue to be some truly remarkable projects. 

What began as a single practice is growing

Welcome to Studio Based Upon, a team of surface specialists and master fabricators with over two decades of experience gained by envisioning, designing, crafting and manufacturing in Based Upon’s pioneering workshop.

Based Upon remains an artist and creator. A space where philosophy is explored as pure form, and material is treated as elemental truth.

Studio Based Upon is a playground for visionaries, shaped by decades of experience, experimentation and innovation, harnessing all that we have learned.
