Building on its stunning success in 2010 and 2011, Masterpiece London will bring together a wide range of top exhibitors from far and wide in 2012.  At the peak of the capital's summer season, it presents art and design of the highest order, enlivened with its own special twist. For our first participation, Based Upon will showcase its most iconic pieces rethought to commemorate London’s landmark monuments and the 2012 celebrations:

Remembering Knightsbridge (4m x 2m)
based upon’s iconic work Wandering Knightsbridge is rethought for 2012. Its Knightsbridge as memory would have it; It is key architectural details and fragments of history, layered to create a map that could exist only in the mind.  Reinvented for 2012, the work features new landmarks and shows Knightsbridge in 2012 with a nod to the Queen’s diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.

based upon Number 1 (2.5m x .8 m)
based upon’s earliest and most iconic sculptural work, based upon Number 1, which has been on display at the Cass Sculpture Foundation for the past four years, will be presented for sale by based upon for the first time at Masterpiece 2012.

The Plum blossom cabinet (2.2m x 1.2m x .58m)
The finest example of based upon’s intricate decorative work, inspired by Japanese Cherry blossom and decorative chinoiserie, the decadently inspired cabinet features intricate handwork in metals and resin and real butterflies preserved within its surface.

Parliament (approx 1.5m x 2m)
A based upon classic, originally commissioned by one of the world’s royal families as a work on a curve; the scene across the Thames to Westminster is reconsidered for 2012 and  presented as a flat work, demonstrating an even finer appreciation of light and colour work.

Highland River (2.5m x 2.9m)
Not for sale. A piece commissioned by a family to document the landscape in which their Scottish Castle sits. Kindly donated by the family for the show, the work is a fine example of based upon’s personalised commissions and shows how what began as a landscape study came to commemorate the life of an ancestor with a remarkable story.

Resin Sea Coffee Table
A new piece created for the show, in the series of based upon’s studies of the earth from the air. Reminiscent of peering into the depths of the ocean and at the same time cutting through the earth to reveal its core, this work is a wonderful example of based upon’s ability to ride the fine line between that which is discovered in nature and that which has been guided by the hand of man.
